The Inter-American Centre for Social Security Studies invites researchers, university professors, students, public officials, and members of civil organizations to participate in the First Congress of Interamerican Studies on Social Security.
The First Interamerican Congress on Social Security is conceived as a space for meeting and reflection for the analysis, exchange of experiences, and discussion of research linked to social security in the countries of the Americas. The congress seeks to promote the presentation of studies that address the different components, approaches, and challenges of social security in the region, considering the diversity of economic, social, demographic, and institutional contexts that characterize the continent.
In line with the subtitle "Challenges of Social Security in the Americas in the First Quarter of the 21st Century", the congress proposes a critical reflection on recent transformations and emerging challenges facing social security systems in a scenario marked by population aging, changes in labor markets, the persistence of informality, fiscal tensions, digitalization, and the impact of health, economic, and environmental crises. From this perspective, the aim is to place the debate in the current historical context, identifying continuities, ruptures, and opportunities to move towards more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient systems.
Within this framework, we call for the presentation of papers that, from different theoretical and methodological perspectives, contribute to the generation of comparative knowledge and the strengthening of academic and technical dialogue around social security. We especially encourage the participation of research that incorporates regional or multinational analyses, as well as those that address relevant and current topics linked to the thematic axes of the congress, with the aim of providing inputs for the design, evaluation, and strengthening of public policies in this area.
A short abstract with a maximum length of 500 words. It must contain the research question and methodology.
For the first submission, a draft of the research paper must be sent, containing the following elements: introduction, research question and hypothesis, theoretical framework, and preliminary results; with a length of 5 to 10 pages.
For the final paper, due on October 16, a document of 10 to 15 pages must be submitted addressing the review observations. This point is mainly for those who wish to have their paper included in the commemorative publication of the Congress.
Submission form attached in the call for papers.
Those interested in submitting papers for the congress must send their submission to the following email: monica.rodriguez@ciss-bienestar.org
The text must be written in Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing on A4 or letter-size paper.
The evaluation of the paper draft will be carried out through an anonymous peer review process, so the files sent must not contain names or references that allow identification of the authors.
Each participant may submit up to two papers, either as author or co-author.
Documents must present in a structured manner the objectives, materials and methods, results, and conclusions, and may be prepared in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.
Comparative studies including two or more countries in the region will be especially valued.
At the time of submission, it must be indicated whether the paper is submitted for in-person or virtual presentation.
If the authors authorize it, the best papers will be included in the commemorative publication of the 1st Interamerican Congress on Social Security that CIESS will produce and edit.
