This year we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security and, concurrently, the 61st anniversary of the first meeting of the American Commission on Occupational Safety and Health (CAPRT). In this context, the document presented during the event offers a historical account of the meetings, agreements, and achievements of the past 61 years. This period is also characterized by important efforts in favor of the worker protection and prevention of occupational hazards undertaken by authorities and international organizations specialized in the field. The Building of an Agenda for the Prevention of Occupational Risks in the Americas” not only serves as an account of such efforts and challenges during these past 61 years, but also establishes a working framework, that considers the recent achievements and the challenges ahead in the drive to improve workers’ health and safety in Latin America and the Caribbean.
