Introduction

Social security constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of human development and the well-being of nations. Its consolidation as a human right acknowledges the responsibility of States to guarantee protection against social risks, under the principles of universality, solidarity, equity, and adequacy.

In a context characterised by accelerated demographic transformations, changing labour markets, increasing human mobility, technological advances, and new family configurations, social security systems face profound challenges that demand interdisciplinary analysis, comparative evidence, and ongoing reflection.

In this context, the Inter-American Centre for Social Security Studies (CIESS), through the Inter-American Network of Universities on Social Security (RIUSS), invites researchers, academics, postgraduate students, and members of schools and think tanks to submit articles for inclusion in the book "Inter-American Studies on Social Security", which in 2026 will be dedicated to exploring the challenges of social security in the first quarter of the 21st century.

Papers should be aligned with the areas of work of the RIUSS Thematic Panels, while also being able to integrate transversal perspectives such as migration, informality, sustainability, governance, inequality, employment, demography, and care.

Guidelines

1

The documents must be original and of the authors' own work. Furthermore, they must not be submitted to any other book or journal for publication while the review process is ongoing and until the resolution has been communicated.

2

Papers may be prepared in Spanish, Portuguese, or English.

3

The document and any graphic elements, if used, must be sent in a single email to: alejandra.reyes@ciss-bienestar.org, indicating in the subject line: "Call for papers for the book Social Security Studies in the Americas 2026".

4

Papers will be anonymously assessed by two Committee-appointed reviewers.

5

The review will consist of two stages: in the first, a preliminary assessment will be issued, after which the author will have a period to address the observations indicated; in the second, the final evaluation will be carried out by the same reviewers, whose decision will be definitive and not subject to appeal.

6

Accepted documents will undergo an editing and style correction process. Before publication, the authors will receive the edited document with the suggested style corrections for validation.

7

The publication will be digital and will be subject to the timelines established by the National Institute of Copyright (INDAUTOR).
